Mon, Jun 01, 2026 | 10:00 am EDT

On Monday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. CEST, The Capitol Forum will host a conference call with Dr. Liza Lovdahl Gormsen, Senior Research Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and Class Representative in the UK Facebook collective action against Meta.

The conversation will be hosted by Javier Espinoza, Europe Executive Editor at The Capitol Forum.

This timely discussion will examine Dr. Lovdahl Gormsen’s multibillion-pound collective action claim against Meta, which alleges the company abused its dominant position in personal social media by imposing unfair terms and conditions on millions of UK Facebook users. The discussion will explore the origins of the case, the current procedural and legal landscape, and the broader implications for digital competition enforcement and collective actions in the UK and Europe.

We will also touch on topics such as:

  • The legal theory underlying the claim that Meta abused its dominance in the personal social networking market
  • Allegations that Meta extracted excessive value from users through broad collection and monetization of personal data
  • The current status of the litigation, including certification of the collective action and upcoming proceedings before the Competition Appeal Tribunal
  • The broader rise of collective competition claims in the UK and how the opt-out class action system functions
  • The potential implications for Meta (META), digital advertising markets, and platform business models if the claim succeeds or fails
  • How UK and European regulators and courts are increasingly approaching questions surrounding data exploitation, market power, and consumer harm

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a timely and thought-provoking conversation.
