Corruption Enforcement, Presidential Pardons, and the Limits of Federal Prosecution

Thu, Mar 19, 2026 | 10:00 am EDT

On Thursday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. ET, The Capitol Forum will host a conference call with Brendan Ballou, former federal prosecutor and founder of the Public Integrity Project. This timely discussion will examine recent developments in corruption enforcement, including questions raised by presidential pardons, the rollback of certain white-collar enforcement efforts, and the legal tools available to pursue accountability outside traditional federal prosecutions. Drawing on his recent New York Times op-ed and his work at the Public Integrity Project, Mr. Ballou will discuss how private legal strategies may play an increasing role in enforcing corruption laws.

We will touch on topics such as:

• Recent actions by the Trump administration that critics argue may raise corruption or rule-of-law concerns
• The legal mechanisms available for private enforcement of corruption and anti-fraud laws
• How pardons and enforcement policy shifts may affect corporate accountability
• The role of private litigation and civil enforcement in addressing alleged corruption
• What these developments could mean for the future of white-collar enforcement and public integrity policy

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a timely and thought-provoking conversation.
