Julia Angwin is an award-winning investigative journalist, bestselling author, and contributing Opinion writer for The New York Times. She is the founding director of the Independent Media + Audience Project at Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center and the founder of Proof News and The Markup, nonprofit journalism organizations focused on technology and accountability. Previously, she was a senior reporter at ProPublica and The Wall Street Journal, where her work was recognized with numerous honors, including a Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting.
