Mispriced Assets and Fragility in Private Credit: An Economist’s Findings with Chuck Fang

Tue, Oct 27, 2026 | 11:00 am ET

On Tuesday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. ET, The Capitol Forum will host a conference call with Chuck Fang, Assistant Professor of Finance at Drexel University, as part of our Private Credit Crises series.

The discussion will explore his recent NBER working paper, “The Fragility of Semi-Liquid Private Credit Funds”, and an upcoming new draft of “Sophisticated Price Inflation in Private Credit Funds.” Using cutting-edge econometrics, theory, and meticulously assembled data, Fang examines how fund managers may exploit investors’ inability to withdraw their money to avoid marking assets down to their true market value, and how even private credit funds with withdrawal limits are at risk of bank-run-like scenarios.

The conversation will also examine how the explosion of private credit may be affecting inflation and long-term interest rate sensitivity, as well as how Fang created a dataset to track debt issued by firms through shell companies.
