Throughout the 2024 presidential campaign and first few months in office, President Donald Trump and his cabinet touted their ability to protect workers and small business.

No longer is the priority to champion big business, they said. Trump’s policies would instead boost American workers and home-grown companies—part of the broader America First campaign.

“I’m proud to be the president for the workers, not the outsourcers; the president who stands up for Main Street, not Wall Street; who protects the middle class, not the political class; and who defends America, not trade cheaters all over the globe,” Trump said in April.

But cuts to labor agencies, tariff chaos, and a slew of deregulatory executive orders are having the opposite effect…
