The Capitol Forum today announced that Nate Soderstrom will rejoin the company as Senior Editor and General Counsel. In this role, Nate will oversee the company’s legal activities and contribute to the publication’s investigative coverage of competition policy, merger enforcement, and other regulatory developments shaping corporate strategy and market dynamics.
From 2022 to 2025, Nate served in the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, where he held senior leadership roles including Special Counsel for Merger Analysis, Acting Deputy Director, and most recently, Associate Director for Merger Analysis. During his time at the FTC he oversaw dozens of merger investigations across pharmaceutical, medical device, semiconductor, technology, oil and gas, and retail markets, and played a central role in shaping enforcement strategy and advancing the agency’s approach to merger review.

Prior to his time at the FTC, Nate spent nearly a decade at The Capitol Forum, helping establish the publication’s reputation as the leading source for investigative antitrust coverage. Earlier in his career, he practiced antitrust law at an international law firm, advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, complex litigation, and government investigations across sectors including computer software, medical products, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, financial products, semiconductors, and telecommunications.

Nate holds a B.A., with distinction, from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota, where he served as an editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
