Published on Sep 12, 2025

The Capitol Forum is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Pianese as Senior Correspondent, further expanding our European reporting team and deepening our coverage of merger control across the region. This strategic addition underscores our commitment to strengthening global reporting and delivering incisive analysis of the policy and regulatory decisions shaping markets and industries worldwide.

Pianese brings extensive experience in European financial and regulatory journalism. She previously reported on financial regulation for The Banker, part of the Financial Times Group, in London, and covered mergers and acquisitions across Europe for Mergermarket, with a particular focus on the consumer sector. She holds a master’s degree in International and Diplomatic Affairs from the University of Bologna, equipping her with a strong international perspective on cross-border policy and regulation.

“We’re excited to welcome Barbara Pianese to The Capitol Forum as we continue to grow our presence in Europe,” said Teddy Downey, CEO and Executive Editor. “Her expertise will strengthen our ability to deliver high-impact investigative reporting on regulatory developments shaping European markets. With dedicated offices in both the UK and Brussels, and under the leadership of our Europe Executive Editor Javier Espinoza, we remain committed to expanding our coverage while continuing to deliver the trusted journalism our readers rely on.”

Pianese joins a dynamic European team that combines investigative rigor with nuanced insights into policy and regulatory developments. Together, our correspondents break critical news first and deliver high-value analysis to subscribers. Readers also benefit from specialized coverage such as The European Antitrust Agenda, which highlights the most significant developments reshaping Europe’s markets.
