Senator Mike Lee, R-UT, in a letter raised concerns with the CEOs of Uber (UBER) and Lyft(LYFT) about whether the ride-share companies’ business practices regarding pricing, driver compensation and algorithmic systems are anticompetitive.
“These two companies account for the overwhelming majority of the market, employ real-time pricing systems, draw from an overlapping pool of drivers, and operate in markets characterized by significant network effects which warrants close Congressional oversight to evaluate whether consumers, drivers, and the competitive process are adequately protected,” said Lee, chairman of the Senate Judiciary antitrust subcommittee. Lee made his comments in a letter yesterday to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Lyft CEO David Risher that was obtained by The Capitol Forum.
