Mr. Poort is an editor on The Capitol Forum‘s Europe team, overseeing competition policy and trade coverage.
Prior to joining The Capitol Forum, Mr. Poort spent 12 years at Al Jazeera Media Network in senior editorial roles, including Executive Producer of The Stream, News Editor at Al Jazeera English, and Managing Editor of Al Jazeera Digital. He also served as Head of Online News at RTL Nieuws in the Netherlands. In addition to his work at The Capitol Forum, he is a Middle East correspondent for the Dutch public broadcaster NOS, covering politics, business, and the recent war in the Gulf.
Throughout his career, Mr. Poort has led international newsrooms, directed coverage of major global events, and helped drive digital newsroom transformation across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
A native of the Netherlands, Mr. Poort holds a master’s degree in Journalism from Edinburgh Napier University and is based in Doha, Qatar.
